Democrats and Faith Outreach...

Ed Kilgore over at TPMCafe discusses the religious right's sensativity to portraying itself as a victim...A true point in my POV... but then he shifts to what I think is a very well written point:

"Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not making excuses for those, especially in politics, who carelessly feed this particular beast. I can't count the number of times in recent years when Democratic politicians or thinkers have addressed people of faith who are worried about our culture by essentially saying: "Put aside your silly superstitions about the metaphysical order of the universe and chow down on a prescription drug benefit like everybody else." This kind of "outreach" to people of faith is worse than silence.

But more importantly, a more sensitive kind of outreach to people of faith could help Democrats drive a huge wedge between millions of believers and those self-styled leaders who, in the pursuit of raw political power, are trading their religious birthright for a secular mess of pottage."
